Approach
The port is protected to the West and to the South by dams NNO long which break wave movements making it safe for ships to enter throughout the year. It is also accessible at night, except under extreme meteorological-sea conditions.

Roman Wet Dock
The Roman wet dock is dedicated to docking hoppers and small boats. Another five docks are used for ferry boats and mail ships that run from Civitavecchia and Sardegna and transport passengers, cars, railroad cars and merchandise. Various mobile cranes are available. Almost all the wharves have railroad connections. Loading and unloading is usually carried out directly onto the railroad card or road vehicles.

Fuel Deposits
Fuel is provided directly at the wharf using a hopper. There are over 200.000 tons of liquid fuel, gasoline, gas and diesel.

Cranes
14 mobile cranes, with a capacity of 5 to 25 tons, are available at wharves No. 2 (3 cranes), 7 (3 cranes), 10/11 (4 cranes), 14 (4 cranes. There are also two self-propelled cranes, 5 mobile cranes with a capacity of 1,5 tons and a crane with a mobile arm with a capacity of 22 tons. Three cranes with a capacity of 6 tons are available at wharf No. 7.
Container and ro-ro facilities
Wharf No. 15, with a storage area of 25.500 square meters, is intended for ro-ro ships. Wharf No. 16 has a storage area of 13.500 square meters and a stacking area of 11.800 square meters with two cranes with a capacity of 40 tons.

Drinking water
Drinking water is available directly from the hydrants located on almost all the wharves or from the barges.

Large ships
The maximum size allowed is 50.000 dwt, 223,5 meters, 35 meters wide and 10,5 meters of sunken depth.

Medical facilities
A port ambulance, of the CO.SE.PO service, is available. There is a Hospital and clinics in the city. As of 1999 a new hyperbaric chamber is available.

Facilities for minerals and loose dry merchandise
Wharf No. 8 is equipped with two vacuums for unloading cereals that can be stored in silos with a capacity of 40.000 tons. Minerals and charcoal can be unloaded at an average 6.000 tons per day. Wharf No. 9 is connected, through a tube system, to cement silos with a capacity of 5.000 tons.

Pilot service
VHF channel 14 is mandatory for incoming/outgoing and/or moving ships that exceed 500 grt.
Procurement
ISSA members are available.

Ship repairs
Minor repairs are carried out by the ARAN, of Fincantieri and by the Maritime Station of the Italian Railroads, which only works on its' own ships. The port does not have a dry dock. Two launching cradles are available for ships up to 300 gtr.

Warehouses
Two free deposits are available for general goods. There is no refrigerated storage area available.

Tanker terminal
Tankers may only be loaded and unloaded from the Deol dock, which is made up of two wharves, one 310 meters long and 11,73 meters deep, and the other 250 meters long and 10,67 meters deep.

Tug boat service
A tug boat service with 6 tug boats is available. Each boat has a capacity that ranges from 1.200 CV to 3.380 CV. A rescue service is also available.

Traffic
In 1999, 400 cruise ships stopped at the port of Civitavecchia, for a total of over 300.000 passengers. Each year, more than 2.000.000 tons of merchandise, in particular cements, cereals and iron and steel products are handled.

Working hours
Offices: Monday to Saturday: from 08:00 to 14:00 and from 15:00 to 18:30. Laborers: Monday to Sunday, from 06:00 to 12:30, from 12:30 to 19:00 and from 19:00 to 03:00. The port companies are organized to offer 24-hour service.

Airport
The Rome international airport, Fiumicino, is approximately 50 km from the Port, along the highway.
